OK - so I think this episode is one of the most evocative and contentious episodes I have ever released. And although I don't ever want to shy away from hard conversations - I DO want this space to stay respectful and safe - and when people don't feel that, I need to ask why.

Ultimately this episode is about protecting the wellbeing of children. And in the 'gender dysphoria' or 'gender incongruence' space - that's a hotly contested debate - because 1: how do you frame the condition/state - is something broken? is it purely a mental phenomenon? or is it completely natural, something we should accept, or celebrate? and then 2: based on what's actually going on how do you address it?

I think one thing is worth noting. Even the 'experts' don't really know. Sure you can Google it and get an answer, but in a recent episode of 'Parental Guidance' - Dr Justin Coulson pointed out that "Australia's 'affirmation approach' is one of the most 'progressive' in the world - and that honestly, we just don't know. There's not enough real data about the effects of these approaches."

On this episode Kirralie says that there is a plethora of data! And that the affirmation approach that then leads to medical intervention is devastating Australian families.

Her new book, Devastated: How Gender Ideology Is Tearing Australian Families Apart, sheds light on the personal stories of families grappling with the impacts of this gender ideology. During the episode, Kirralie shared her experiences, her legal battles, and why she believes this issue transcends political lines. She says, these families have been let down, and in many cases betrayed by the system that is supposed to support them.

Kirralie Smith, a passionate advocate for biological reality and children’s safety. She is the spokeswoman for Binary Australia who has been at the frontlines of numerous legal battles this year.

"We’ve never affirmed anorexia. We didn’t tell kids, ‘Yes, you’re too fat,’ and then medically starve them. But now we’re affirming identity crises in children by telling them they can change their sex—when no human in history has ever changed their biological sex. It’s a lie, and it’s devastating lives."

So, what do you think?

I have seen kids significantly medicated with personality-changing medications - just becuase they didn't fit inside the school system. I've taken those same kids out into the bush and delivered a coaching program - and you wouldn't even know they had letters after their name!

How often do we label and then medicate rather than question our own paradigms and systems? How often do we jump straight to the 'quickfix' approach, rather than sit with the discomfort and have hard conversations instead?

I personally think that something is very wrong with offering children medical interventions with permanent side-effects for something that could simply change with age.
