In this latest episode of The Edge, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Amity Gilmour, a musical artist who brings a fresh perspective, strength, and grace to the conversation on living with chronic illness. Unlike many of my guests who have the "luxury of hindsight" - being able to look back on their challenging seasons with a sense of closure, Amity is right there, right now, living on the edge, balancing life and a rare connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
This episode goes deep, offering real-time reflections and insights that are both raw and inspiring. Amity’s journey is one of resilience, acceptance, and faith, as she navigates the impact of her illness on both her body and spirit.
“It just goes to show how music can help us process things. For me, music is my therapy... but not just my therapy, it's my way of expressing how I feel, it's my way of praise, it's my way of trusting God... when everything else is falling to pieces around me.”
(Amity Gilmour)
Amity grew up in a musical family, with strong influences from her uncles and her mother, who all inspired her love for music. She recalls her childhood filled with melodies, from singing along with her mom on the guitar to being recorded by her uncle in a “caravan record studio” as a toddler. Even through difficult times in school where she faced bullying due to medical issues, Amity found strength in music.
Amity’s story reminds us that while we may not have control over what life throws our way, we do have control over how we respond. Through her music, faith, and the community around her, she continues to find strength to face each day.
Check out this latest episode to hear Amity’s beautiful perspective on resilience, faith, and purpose. Her story is a powerful example of how creativity and community can help us navigate life’s toughest challenges. Don’t miss this inspiring episode and the chance to listen to her song “Healing”—a gift of hope for anyone on their own journey.

For Amity, music became more than just a hobby; it became a tool for processing emotions, expressing her faith, and creating something beautiful amid the pain. Her song “Healing” captures these feelings and has resonated with many listeners. Music, she shares, isn’t just a way to express joy but is also a pathway to work through sorrow, confusion, and trust in something greater.
This episode leaves us with a powerful reminder: true healing begins when we embrace life’s uncertainties, finding strength in trust and hope, even when the path is unclear.
